What is the Yateley Road Race Series?
The Yateley Road Race Series consists of three 10k road races,
held every year on the first Wednesday of June, July and August
at 7:30 pm from Yateley Centre. It is hugely popular and gained
the sobriquet of “Best Mid-Week Series” from Runners World.
How do I get to the race?
The races start and finish in the Yateley Centre – on the fields
adjacent to Yateley Comprehensive School in School Lane,
Yateley, Hampshire GU46 6NW. See
this map. The nearest railway stations are Sandhurst and
Blackwater, which is approximately 4 miles away. Further away
are Farnborough and Camberley stations, from where you can get a
taxi.
Can I enter on the day of the race?
No. We have a maximum number of 1000 runners – once that is
reached we cannot accept any more. The maximum has been
pre-set following discussions with the police authority and our
insurers. Each race was full a few weeks before the race day so
we have no need for entries on the day.
Is the course suitable for wheelchair competitors?
No. It is hilly with a grass start and finish, and wheelchair
users have had problems in the past negotiating the course.
Can I walk the course as an entrant?
If you’re a quick walker! See “Is there a cut-off time?”.
What
prizes are there?
Medals will be presented to all finishers in the finish area.
Presentation of trophies/prizes will be at approximately 20:40.
There is a £200 bonus for setting a new course record during the
series.

Your race category will be determined from your age on the day
of the first race of the series. The overall series places will
be decided on a points system based on finishing positions in
each race. In the event of a tie, total times will be taken into
consideration. Only runners competing in all three races will be
eligible for the series prizes.
Why is
there only one prize in my age category?
Due to the quantity of entrants in some of the categories, there
is no real competition and therefore no further prizes. This is
reviewed annually and if the quantity increases then we will
introduce prizes.
Markers were in the wrong
place, why?
The Km markers are on the nearest
post to actual distance so will always be out by anything up to
20m. They are there only as an indication.
Is there a cut-off time?
Please do not enter the Yateley Road Race Series if you expect
to take more than 80 minutes to complete the course due
to time constraints upon evening events. If you are injured,
contact a marshal who will arrange a lift back to the
Start/Finish area. Those finishing in over 80 minutes may not
get a medal or be in the results because the finish will be
dismantled at that point.
Can I run with my dog?
No dogs are allowed as they are
an obstacle to other runners, we have received a few complaints
each year and with the numbers of runners at its highest we can
no longer allow them.
How do you calculate Series Prizes?
For each race, entrants are awarded points, from 20 down to 1,
within their category. These are added up and after three races
the
entrants with the best total points in their category win
prizes.
In the event that the points are tied, the entrant with the
better total time over the three races is awarded a prize over
those with inferior times. If total points and times are equal,
the criterion is which entrant beat the other more often over
the three races. If they tie after that, a coin will be tossed
to determine the winner.
Is there anywhere I can store my kit bag?
At your own risk, you can leave your kit bag in the gym hall,
however it will have a volunteer supervising.
The organisers can accept no responsibility for the care of your
kit.
Is there Medical Cover?
Yes, the Red Cross usually provides medical
cover for the race. We also usually have at one GP on hand
before and after the race. If you are injured, please tell a
course marshal, who will contact the medical support to attend
to you. If you have special medical needs, please consult with
the Race Director before entering the event and write your
medical details on the back of your number.
Why are unaffiliated runners charged an extra £2?
Any entrants from unaffiliated clubs or who are unattached to
any club are not insured unless they have paid this extra fee.
Insurance cover is a condition of entry.
When will my race numbers be sent to me?
They won't you can collect your race number and ChampionChip
from the Sports Hall on the evening of the race so please arrive
in plenty of time.
I couldn't get there because of traffic / illness /
weather/couldn't be bothered.
-
Can I get a refund?
No refunds are available unless the event is called off by
the organisers, in which case a percentage of your entry fee
may be deducted due to upfront expenses incurred by the
organisers. (This has never happened).
-
Can
someone else use my number in my place?
We understand that some of you will not be able to run and,
given the restriction on numbers of entrants each year, may
wish to pass your number on to someone able to run.
You can pass on a number and still run as yourself in the
other race(s) if you wish.
We are happy to accommodate this prior to the race day. Please
download the Number Exchange form (PDF
format) and hand it in before the race.
If you can't download it, they'll be at the info desk on the
night. PLEASE COME EARLY TO DO THIS - DON'T LEAVE IT UNTIL THE
LAST MINUTE.
If, however, someone runs in your number and completely cocks up
the results because they’re a senior male running in a number
allocated to a 74-year-old woman and it suddenly looks like a
world record has been set, we will send hurricanes and lightning
round to your house. So please don't do that.
Where do I collect my T-shirt?
Pre-ordered T-shirts can be collected on the night from the
T-shirt sales desk.
What happens if I do not collect my T-shirt?
T-shirts that are uncollected are saved until after series ends,
when the t-shirt will go back on sale. If you contact us prior
to that then we can post it to you at your cost – or you can
pick it up by arrangement with
the Race Director.

What’s the history of these races?
Yateley, Hampshire, has been home to a
mid-week 10K series since around 1987. We believe that the first
races were the Yateley half-marathons, held in the summers of
1980-83. After that they became converted to a series of three
10K races, held at 7:30 in the evening on the first Wednesday of
June, July and August at Frogmore Campus on a now-defunct
course.
Sandhurst Joggers took over responsibility for the
organisation of the series in 1992.
Who helps?
The races would not be possible without the help of various
local organisations including the Police, Scouts and most of
all, Yateley Lions; We thank them and the other volunteers who
turn out every year to support the Races.
Do Charities benefit from these races?
Approximately a third of the entrance
fees from the races are donated to local charities and
organisations, some who help out on the night. If you would
like to be the recipient of a grant and are in the Yateley area,
please send email to
The Race Director.

Who sponsors the races?
See our
Partners page
If you wish to sponsor us in the future, please send email to
The Sponsorship
Secretary. We will give you
extensive publicity in our literature, website advertisements
and or banners on the race night. We are also open to your
sponsorship proposals.
When will the results be published?
Results should be available soon after the race due to the use
of ChampionChip from RaceAhead. You can also have your result
sent to you via SMS if you provide your mobile on your entry
form.
Can I obtain a printed copy of the results from the Race
Organisers?
No. Printed copies of the results are no longer available. After
many years of providing this service, with an ever-lower
take-up, we now provide results exclusively via the website and
it saves a few trees.
Can I obtain a copy of my picture at this or previous YRR
Series?
Yes. Please see:
our archive page.
What happens if I do not collect my prize?
If you are eligible for a trophy and didn’t stay to collect it,
we will contact you to arrange delivery or collection. In
general we would far prefer that you collect trophies and prizes
on the night. Please stay for the presentations if you
think yourself eligible. You can check with the Race Announcer
to see if you have won a prize.
How can I contact you?
If you have any issue or comments we are happy to have your
feedback. The race series has been going from strength to
strength over the years and this is partly because we are
continually trying to improve on what we do – sometimes we will
make mistakes. We value all the runners who participate in the
races and value all comments whether good or bad.
Any queries regarding the races should be emailed to
the Race Director |
