We are well into the second half of the year and the 2018 Handicap Competition is really taking shape as the August edition was completed this week. Current series leader Colin Carpenter finished in 16th this time around, one of his worst points hauls of the year but he conceded only a few points to his closest rivals and improved on his January result so remains well clear at the top of the table. Only Andrea Vincent was able to make a significant inroad into Colin’s lead with a 23 point score for 8th place on the night. Other contenders Mike Guess, Dick Newman and Patrick Wadsworth only pulled back a handful of points each as members further down the table showed the biggest improvements this month.
Sarah Alexander continued her great form to post the biggest improvement on the night of 2 minutes 28 seconds, her season’s best. Kate Parker and Roy Bentley took second and third positions respectively. Twenty runners took to the start including first timer Mo Willcox. Fastest on the night was Max Woods with 27:50.

Colin retains a 32 point lead at the top of the table, while Mike Guess continues to lead a tightly packed group with Andrea Vincent leapfrogging Dick Newman and Patrick Wadsworth into 3rd place. Only 12 points separate 2nd to 5th positions with another nine runners who have scores in hand all within range.
