Covid-19 message:
Please remember that people will be nervous with case numbers rising and some of our younger members not being double vaccinated so please remember to give people space if they require it.
Please do not attend club runs IF you have any symptoms of coronavirus or you are isolating as you have been in close contact with someone with coronavirus and if you have been at a club run and then have a positive PCR test we need to have record of this so we can inform the relevant people to isolate.

Events from the past week:
Intra Club Relays:
Sandhurst Joggers intra club relays are back with runners paired with each other, depending on their 5km time. Both runners then complete a 1km lap 5 times, taking it in turns to run a lap.
Well done to everyone who took part as it is not just running a 1km lap but running it as fast as you can and the weather was very warm but it was enjoyable to catch up with all the other runners. Our 3rd place winners were George Green and Helev Davey, our 2nd place winners were Martin Steadman and Nigel Arthur and our 1st place winners are Mo Wilcox and Nikii Jett. After all the excitement of running our laps, the social secretaries kindly bought along some pizza and drinks for us all to enjoy afterwards, which as the pictures below show, was very much appreciated and taken advantage of! If you are unsure about the intra club relay as you feel you may not be fast enough, give it a go as there is lots of encouragement from all the other runners and a time to get to know more members of the club.
Thank you to Amy Jones for being a marshal and taking these photos for us.
Hampton Court Half Marathon:
Well done to Patrick Denston for completing the Hampton Court Half Marathon, I spoke with him to found more about how he found the event:
So I entered this half marathon over a year ago when I was training well, 25kg lighter and missing sporting events. Roll on 14 months and I’m in front of Hampton court palace, hung over, under trained, over weight and since having our first child less than a year ago, massively sleep deprived!
The covid security for this event (very important to some) was to have people start in single file waves, still not really sure how it was meant to work and was lovingly ignored by everyone including the person starting the race. The first few miles of the half marathon meandered along the northern side of the river Thames. Out in force we’re rowers, dog walkers, people enjoying a morning stroll and a 50 person strong female rock choir! This level of variety is one of the few things I miss about living in London. Shortly after the rock choir (who sounded fantastic!) the route crosses the river over Kingston Bridge and back along the road that hugs the south side of the river. Along this part of the route you’re “treated” to the disused sewage settling tanks, which will no doubt be one day converted in to over priced luxury yacht storage or a new home for Brian May, who according to Wikipedia lives in the area but for some reason wasn’t out on Sunday morning to cheer me on.
Shortly after the tanks you pass cigarette island park, named after a boat and not a pack of lucky strikes. The route then goes over Hampton court bridge and passes lots of cheering crowds as you approach the 8 mile marker. The route then follows the north side of the Thames again for about 3 miles. Not really much else to say about this section of the course as it was the same as the first bit. This time however when you reach the rock choir you turn left in to a back entrance to the grounds of Hampton Court place. The last 2 and half miles or so is along a track through fields, passing cows and a few trees. This part of the route even though my legs started to feel a little tired was very enjoyable, it was just like being out in the countryside. Lack of fields and greenery incidentally, is one of my biggest reasons I don’t miss living in London!
The race finish was along a wide, windy shingle path with lots of supporters cheering for the final 100m and over the finish line. I always find the actual crossing of a finish line very anticlimactic and would love to share other people’s levels of enjoyment when they finish but all I think once I’m there is “well, best get on with the rest of the day”. Which I did. Well, after becoming the proud owner of the largest and heaviest medal I’ve ever had. It might need its own rawlplug to hang it on the wall! All in all a well organised good value event. I’d recommend it as a good tapering run for London or for those doing their first half or simply for those that want a medal larger than all their others.

Time for the Parkrun results for this week. Volunteers are always needed and if you are interested, have a look at your local Parkrun website page for more details. Well done to all the club runners with runs taking place all around the country. The parkrun results for this week is from the 18/09/2021.
