For the different events that are going on for Sandhurst Joggers and who is attending, I encourage you to look at and add to the ‘events’ page on the private Facebook group which is below:

Dorking 10 Miles:

Well done to Nick Metcalfe for completing the Dorking 10 mile race, I caught up with Nick to see how he got on:

‘I’ve been keen to try out some new events and different distances this year, so I was looking forward to the Dorking 10 mile event. I arrived in good time and jogged to the start area at Brockham Green, joining a field of runners from some different clubs to those I see at more local events (Wimbledon, Epsom, South London Harriers etc). The route is a big square, where you complete one shorter 4 mile lap followed by a longer 6 mile lap, which is well marshalled and signposted throughout. I got a bit boxed in to start with (made the mistake of starting a little far back), but the field soon strung out and I found some space to get into a rhythm. The route was the definition of undulating, at any given point you were likely going up or down, with some inclines steeper than others. Pair that with the warm weather and it probably wasn’t a race for a PB, but the scenery in the Surrey Hills was lovely, and certainly made for some nice views to take in. My pace was fairly consistent throughout, although mile 9 was particularly hilly and I was eager to see the finish line after that! I crossed the line with my watch saying 1:06:02, although the official results had me 19 seconds quicker. A good benchmark for a 10 mile race, and on a flatter course with slightly cooler temperatures, I think I can take a decent chunk of time off! It was a well organised and pleasant event, with a nice wooden medal and very nice t-shirt included at the finish, would definitely recommend’.

Platinum Jubilee 7km Run:

Well done to Alurie Dutton, Jane Pond, Jane Ralls, Sarah Davies, Sue Hopkinson, Jackie Roberts and Sarah Jones for completing the Platinum Jubilee run based at Frimley Lodge Park, there was good support during the event from both the marshalls and runners along with a mixed course with some on and off road running.

South Downs Way 100 mile event:

Well done to Lina Johnson for completing her 100 mile event for charity, which we know as a club she has been trying to achieve for a while, Lina said the event was a ‘tough one’ but she looks very proud with her medal!

The Hampshire Hoppit Marathon:

Well done to Alison Jones, Sharon Burfield (with matching odd socks!) and Jonathan Taylor for completing the Hoppit event, here is how they got on:

‘This was my seventh time of running the full hoppit marathon, it’s such a beautiful trail run, it’s so welcoming and superbly organised by local running club Basingstoke and Mid Hants. There’s also a half that starts a bit later in the day and has no time limit to finish. It is a hilly and challenging course but you’ve got 7 hours to get it done meaning you don’t have to rush, and can take it all in and enjoy it. It was well marshalled with friendly and supportive volunteers and loads of aid stations meaning the runners were well supported. The route changed a bit this year meaning the “cheeky” white hill (barely walkable, let alone runnable!) is now the last kilometre rather than the first. Highlights of the route for me included running by watership down (no rabbits spotted), through corn fields with poppies everywhere and enormous fields of flowers. I was a bit slower this year due to the heat but I did enjoy this stunning trail run all the more as I had time to appreciate the scenery. At the finish line you’re presented with an awesome medal, a pint glass and offered a free beer. Also a decent goody bag. What’s not to like ! Its a marathon that’s only 30 mins away from Sandhurst, it’s a great one to enter as a first marathon’.

Southend on Sea half marathon:

Well done to Fusi Motsamai for completing the Southend on Sea half, here is how he found the event:

‘Southend on sea half marathon was nice , running with friends just for fun and cheering other runners along the way. The course was In two laps and one of the flat half marathon I’ve ran to date, we went to have fun and we did had fun’.

Here are the Parkrun results for this week. Volunteers are always needed and if you are interested, have a look at your local Parkrun website page for more details. Club Events for the week ahead…

View the Sandhurst Calendar here.

Monday:

Patrick Wadsworth will be taking the Monday Club run from Sandhurst Sports Centre leaving at 7:30 for 6 miles in an hour (distances and duration are Monday miles and minutes and bear passing resemblance to those in use at other times).

Tuesday:

The biggest club run of the week will as always offer multiple groups to cater for all abilities from beginners through to faster and more experienced runners. It’s perfect for novices and those coming back from injury or a long lay-off because you can start with an easy group and work your way upwards. The start time is 6:30pm as always this week from the regular start at Sandhurst Memorial Park.

Tuesday Intervals:

Alongside the Tuesday group runs is intervals and the venue varies but most weeks we meet at the Tythings, Yateley or at the Morgan Rec (where the handicap is), Crowthorne. The session can support with helping you get faster, building up endurance with the session being for all abilities and no-one is left behind.

Wednesday Day Run:

If you are struggling to run in the evenings, there is now a run from the Sandhurst Memorial Park at 12:30pm. Anyone of any ability can go and enjoy a run and a chat with a variety of routes.

Wednesday:

A run with Erol will contain hills, laughs, and a couple of wrong turns (normally), but you can guarantee you’ll end up at the car park eventually, and with a smile at the end of it all! Meet at Sandhurst Sports Centre at 7:15pm and lights and high vis clothing will be required. The run is a great way to improve fitness by running as a group at a slightly harder intensity.

Thursday:

Thursday is now a rest day from running for the club.

Friday:

Friday night is track night with 3 of our experienced coaches James, Carl and Newton, the sessions are for anyone to take part in and take place at Bracknell Leisure Centre. Book your place here https://membermojo.co.uk/sandhurstjoggers/store

Saturday:

Lots of members will be enjoying their weekly Parkrun fix at 9am on Saturday morning, if you’re thinking of going somewhere new then post on the Facebook page as there may be other members planning on running at the same place as you! Wherever you are parkrunning – Don’t forget your barcode!

Sunday:

The Sunday Lookout run a try with Scarlett Palmer. She says its the best run of the week but might be a bit biased! It’s a flexible run leaving from The Lookout at 9 am with different groups to suit a wide range of abilities. The three ‘Cs’ of Coffee, cake and chat are enjoyed in the cafe post-run.

Thanks for reading the Run Down, have a safe week of running and I’ll see you next week!

Please do let me know if you are doing any events, I can only report what I see on Strava and Facebook and I hope you appreciate there may be things I miss!

Ping me a message over the weekend and I will include it so others can see what we are doing and may be inspired to try a different event.
