Home Cross Country Volunteers:
As a club we run in the Thames Valley Cross Country League and as part of that we organise and host our very own cross-country event – this year’s event is on Sunday 28th November at Lord Wandsworth College, Hook.
WE NOW NEED YOUR HELP to ensure our event goes ahead successfully and safely, so that the good name of the club continues to thrive.
To host the cross country we need you to volunteer to help us in one (or more) of the following ways:
• Set up the course
• Make sandwiches for the race
• Set up the hospitality area
• Organise parking cars
• Marshal the race
• Serve tea, coffee, sandwiches, and cake
• Pack down the course
In total we have 90 roles that need filling across the weekend, this could be YOU OR MEMBERS OF YOUR FAMILY, this is your opportunity to GIVE BACK TO YOUR CLUB.
Throughout the cross-country season there are many opportunities for you to race, but for this, our home event, we put restrictions on who can run. Our Cross-Country Captains Nigel and Gabbi Bassett will email those they wish to see represent the club at this event – if you have received the Bassett’s email, please DO NOT volunteer to help, they need you! For everyone else, please continue to read this email and see what you need to do.
Any member who turns up on race day expecting to run and is not part of Nigel and Gabbi’s scoring team will be asked to volunteer; only the official scoring team will be permitted to run in the race.
Please complete this form if you want to volunteer: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScIu4xqhNw2Riwe5RSWacMa9Ej4wuqFAXfqsYHW6EFQneqKEw/viewform

Events from the past week:
Great South Run 5k and 10 miles:
Well done to Sarah Jones who completed the Great South Run 5k, which took place the day before the 10 miles event. I found the event was well organised with not too many people and this meant social distancing could be observed well. The race itself was flat which meant I could get some speed going and had good support from the crowd and family members, who came to support me. Overall, I really enjoyed the race and whilst some may think that travelling to Southsea is a long way to go for a 5k, it was well worth it and I enjoyed the course.

Well done to Michelle Reardon, Samantha Goodall, Kim Taylor, Jackie Roberts, Claire Rowse, Susan Plumb, Stephen Casey, Claire Mccubbin, Lisa Harrold, Andy Hazell, Bryony Lambert and anyone else who completed the Great South Run 10 miles which took place on the Sunday.
Cabbage Patch 10 miles:
Well done to Vicky Rice and John Tovell for completing the Cabbage Patch 10 mile race.

Here are the Parkrun results for this week. Volunteers are always needed and if you are interested, have a look at your local Parkrun website page for more details. Well done to all the club runners with runs taking place all around the country. The results for this week is from the 16/10/2021.

Club Events for the week ahead…
Monday:
Patrick Wadsworth will be taking the Monday Club run from Sandhurst Sports Centre leaving at 7:30 for 6 miles in an hour (distances and duration are Monday miles and minutes and bear passing resemblance to those in use at other times).
Tuesday:
The biggest club run of the week will as always offer multiple groups to cater for all abilities from beginners through to faster and more experienced runners. It’s perfect for novices and those coming back from injury or a long lay-off because you can start with an easy group and work your way upwards. The start time is 6:30pm as always this week from the regular start at Sandhurst Memorial Park.
Tuesday Intervals:
Alongside the Tuesday group runs is intervals and the venue varies but most weeks we meet at the Tythings, Yateley or at the Morgan Rec (where the handicap is), Crowthorne. The session can support with helping you get faster, building up endurance with the session being for all abilities and no-one is left behind.
Wednesday Day Run:
If you are struggling to run in the evenings, there is now a run from the Sandhurst Memorial Park at 12:30pm. Anyone of any ability can go and enjoy a run and a chat with a variety of routes.

Meet at Sandhurst Memorial Park at 7:30pm and lights and high vis clothing will be required. The run is a great way to improve fitness by running as a group at a slightly harder intensity.
Friday:
Friday night is track night with 3 of our experienced coaches James, Carl and Newton and the venue varies depending on where the coaches are leading the session from and the focus on the sessions. These sessions are for anyone who wants to improve their speed and endurance for ru
Saturday:
Lots of members will be enjoying their weekly Parkrun fix at 9am on Saturday morning, if you’re thinking of going somewhere new then post on the Facebook page as there may be other members planning on running at the same place as you! Wherever you are parkrunning – Don’t forget your barcode!
Sunday:
The Sunday Lookout run a try with Dick Newman and Emy Circuit. They say its the best run of the week but might be a bit biased! It’s a flexible run leaving from The Lookout at 9 am with different groups to suit a wide range of abilities. The three ‘Cs’ of Coffee, cake and chat are enjoyed in the cafe post-run.
Thanks for reading the Run Down, have a safe week of running and I’ll see you next week!
Please do let me know if you are doing any events, I can only report what I see on Strava and Facebook and I hope you appreciate there may be things I miss!
Ping me a message over the weekend and I will include it so others can see what we are doing and may be inspired to try a different event.
